Abuja - The Federal High Court in Yola, Adamawa
State, has sentenced Ibrahim Buba Gayius, the former local government chairman
and chief accounting officer of Hong local government council, to a total of 70 years in prison for fraud.
He was sentenced when he appeared before Justice Aliyu on
charges bordering on conspiracy, embezzlement and diversion of public funds,
fraud and abuse of office to the tune of N41,1 million.

Gayius was earlier arraigned on March 2015 before Justice
Aliyu, for alleged collection of N50 million agriculture loan on behalf of the
members of the staff of the council but instead, he gave out less than N10
million and diverted the remaining amount for his personal use.
Aliyu, after consideration of the weight of the offence
convicted and sentenced the convict to seven years imprisonment on each of the
ten count charge and the sentence to run concurrently.
He must pay back N38,42 million to the Hong local government
