Ex-Governor Nyako's fraud trial deferred to May

Abuja - The trial of former Adamawa State Governor, Murtala Nyako, has been adjourned to early next month.

He has appeared at the Federal High Court, Abuja, where he is under probe for corruption alongside his son, Abdul-Aziz, and two other suspects Abubakar Aliyu and Zulkifikk Abba.

They are standing trial on a 37-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy, stealing, abuse of office and money laundering to the tune ofN29 billion.

They are alleged to have at various times between 2011 and 2013, used five companies – Blue Opal Nigeria limited, Serore Farms & Extension Limited, Pagoda Fortunes Limited, Towers Assets Management Limited and Crust Energy Limited to commit the fraud.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is seeking their prosecution.

On Friday, Justice Chukwu adjourned the matter to May 6.

Nyako was governor of Adamawa between 2008 and 2014.
