Fayose strategizes on stopping herdsmen's invasion

29 August 2016, 18:17Tony Smart

Ekiti - Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has signed the Ekiti state Open Grazing Prohibition Bill into law.

He signed the law on Monday in the presence of over 3 000 traditional chiefs in the state.

Under the law, herdsmen are forbidden from carrying arms.

They are also prohibited from grazing their cattle in areas that are not designated for grazing.

The law prescribes six months imprisonment without option of fine for any herdsman who violates the grazing prohibition while any herdsman found with arms will be charged with terrorism.

The governor had earlier in the year threatened that the people of the state would poison the source of water by the herdsmen for the cattle if they failed to heed to his warning that they should steer clear of the state according to News24.

He said he had instructed his people to poison water with a particular brand of chemical used against fungal attacks in the event of any herdsmen attack in Ekiti.
