Five dead as Fulani herdsmen strike in Benue

15 May 2016, 09:56

Abuja - Five people are said to have lost their lives on Friday night after men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen stormed the Agwabi community in the Buruku LGA of Benue State.

According to Sun News Online, the village was infiltrated at around 8 p.m, with gunmen shooting sporadically at innocent citizens.

The attacks seems to be the first of its kind in the area, with issues between herdsmen and farmers never being reported prior to the attack.

The State Police Command has since confirmed the attack, saying that five people are reported to have been killed, with villagers claiming that the number is much higher.

The attack follows a statement made by President Muhammadu Buhari, claiming that Fulani herdsmen are not Nigerians but instead reign from Libya, where they were trained during former President Muammar Gadaffi's regime.
