Forgery: Senators attack Attorney General

04 July 2016, 06:29

Abuja - The Senate has released a statement saying that it feels vindicated by the Thursday ruling of an Abuja High Court that the case against its presiding officers is an abuse of court process, Naij reports.

The Senate added that the ruling clearly now proves that Abubakar Malami, the Attorney General of the Federation(AGF) was acting in a personal interest while abusing his power.

Malami has now been requested by the Senate to publicly address the ruling and his personal role in the charges filed against Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.

News24 Nigeria reported that Ekweremadu labelled the charges as an attempt by President Muhammadu Buhari's government to ridicule and rubbish a powerful institution such as the National Assembly.

Saraki and Ekweremadu are being arraigned on charges of alleged forgery for manipulating the 2015 Senate Standing Rules that saw the two men voted into power.
