Four Chibok girls matriculate at AUN

08 September 2016, 13:22

Abuja - Four of the 24 Chibok girls that escaped from Boko Haram in 2014 were among the new students formally accepted into American University of Nigeria (AUN) for their education during the convocation, Newsday reports.

The matriculation and convocation ceremony took place at the premises of the institution on August 29.

Since their escape from the Boko Haram camp, all the 24 have been on the university’s scholarship studying under a special preparatory programme.

Meanwhile the #BringBackOurGirls group on Wednesday said it would defy the ban on public protests by the Nigeria Police Force and carry on with its rally according to News24.

The group insists that the police have no power under the law to ban rallies.

#BringBackOurGirls has since 2014 been campaigning for the release of over 200 schoolgirls abducted by the extremist group, Boko Haram, from Government Secondary School, Chibok, in April that year.

The new round of protest march by the group began August 23 after Boko Haram released a video indicating the girls were alive.
