Fraudulent sim card registration warned by NCC

01 September 2016, 21:27

Abuja - The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has warned telecoms operators and dealers to desist from selling pre-registered SIM cards in the open market.

Such conduct is in violation of the law.

The commission also notified the public to stop purchasing pre-registered SIM cards and insist on being registered personally for any new SIM card purchased.

According to the Commission Director, Public Affairs Tony Ojobo, all violators would face stiff sanctions as the NCC would enlist the assistance of law enforcement agencies to address and curb this menace.

He added that a licensee who activates any subscription medium without capturing, registering and transmitting the personal information to the central database committed an offence and shall on conviction be liable to a fine of N200 000 for each unregistered activated subscription medium.
