Fresh Rivers cult clash sees 11 dead

17 June 2016, 08:33

Abuja - No less than 11 people are alleged to have been killed following a fresh cult clash in River State, Punch reports.

In an alleged reprisal attack, members of the Greenlanders cult group stormed the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA of the State on Wednesday, killing several civilians before escorting a well-known doctor, identified as Dr. Erike, along with one other person.

The attack is suspected to have come about as a revenge plot following the death of Greenlanders members at the hands of the Icelanders cult group.

Isaac Umejuru, CTC chairman of ONELGA, has described the attack as regrettable, while urging youths to shun cults and violence.

Ahmad Muhammad, PR Officer for the Command, has since confirmed the incident, claiming that three cultists were killed during the deadly clash.

“The scenario appears to be a cult clash, leaving three suspected cultists dead,” Muhammad stressed.

The clash follows on from a score of supremacy battles in Rivers State that have claimed the lives of 16 people.
