Fulani herdsmen can't islamise us, Igbo women say

27 April 2016, 19:31

Enugu - The Igbo Women Assembly (IWA) has said that no grazing lands or ranches should be reserved for Fulani herdsmen in the South-east geopolitical zone, as doing so would be a tacit approval to the herdsmen to continue killing Igbo men and rape their wives.

According to The Sun, IWA said the people of the zone "cannot be islamised".

The women said this amid the deaths of hundreds of people over land clashes between villagers and the cattle rearers.

The latest violence saw the killing of over 20 villagers in Ukpabi Nimbo in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, southeast of the country. A church was razed down.

This came after concern state security forces were turning a blind eye on the killings committed by the Fulani, a tribe President Muhammadu Buhari belonged to.
