Governor criticises 'insensitive' Kwara govt officials

04 December 2015, 12:05

Abuja - Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, has lashed at some local government chairpersons for recruiting unnecessarily despite the state’s precarious financial situation.

The governor described the actions of the local government chairperson as insensitive in view of the fact that salaries are still being owed by all local government councils in the state.

The officials have been given a week to reverse the appointments.

Ahmed said the savings from the reversed appointments should be used to pay the outstanding salaries of existing workers.

He defended the move to reverse the recruitment.

“My administration has no interest in sacking any workers except those who were illegally engaged,” Ahmed said.

Meanwhile, the governor expressed hope that the Federal Government would soon release the bailout for the relief of staff whose salaries the state owes.

He stressed his determination to block all loopholes in state and local government finances, starting with the 2016 budget and the forthcoming biometric and electronic verification of staff.
