Lagos – Catholic priest and founder of the Adoration Ministry, Reverend Ejike Mbaka has reportedly claimed that there are plans by unnamed people to assassinate President Muhammadu Buhari over his campaign against corruption.
According to Punch, Mbaka said this during his New Year sermon on Friday.
"Many people are planning to kill Buhari – there are many plans on how to eliminate his life so that corruption will continue, so that embezzlement will continue," Mbaka was quoted as saying.
He, however, encourage Buhari to remain "firm" and "resolute", saying God would "protect" him.
This comes as former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki is currently facing charges for misappropriating over $2b meant for the purchase of arms for the Nigerian military to fight the war against the Boko Haram insurgency.
Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, John Cardinal Onaiyekan on Friday urged the Federal Government to pardon those involved in money laundering if they were willing to return such funds.
Onaiyekan said the best strategy to ensure the return of the monies would be an agreement with the people involved to have them return what they had stolen.
"It is okay to expose people and disgrace them, but that will not solve the problem.
"If we want our money back, we have to strategise so that the countries that are keeping our money can feel challenged to return them,” Onaiyekan was quoted as saying.
