Gunmen abduct baby, monarch in Lagos

18 July 2016, 08:20

Abuja - Gunmen have allegedly abducted traditional leader Oba Goriola Oseni, the Oniba of Iba land, along with a baby and two others after storming the Iba community on Saturday.

According to a Punch report, the gunmen, who were suspected to have been militants, entered the area in speedboats before shooting dead a palace guard and a motorcycle rider.

Announcing their arrival with a series of sporadic gunshots, the gunmen proceeded to attempt the abduction of some oil dealers, but to no avail.

The armed men then took to the palace of Oniba Oseni before dragging the ruler out and shooting his wife in the process.

The monarch's wife, Kuburat, was reportedly rushed to a nearby hospital soon after the horrifying attack.

Oba Josiah Aina, the Oloto of Otto, has since revealed that the monarch's family has not been contacted with a ransom request since the attack, The Cable reports.

In addition to the monarch's abduction, a three-month old baby, a woman and a businessman were abducted earlier on Friday, prior to the gunmen's attack on the ruler's palace.

SP Dolapo Badmos has since confirmed the attack and subsequent abductions.
