Health workers run from suspected Lassa fever patient

14 January 2016, 07:02

Abuja - Health workers from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) took off in a frenzy on Wednesday when a patient suspected of having Lassa fever was brought into the Medical Emergency Unit.

The patient, a security guard, was rushed to the facility after he began bleeding through his nose unexpectedly, Punch reports.

The man was eventually attended to by a nurse following the motion. A series of tests have since been ordered to identify the man's condition.

Speaking out on the incident, a medic at the hospital said medical personnel were merely taking precautions to ensure that they were wearing protective gear to avoid cross-infection in the hospital, should the man's condition be Lassa fever.

Issac Adewole, Minister of Health, has since warned that any medical practitioner who rejects ill patients would have to face sanctions.
