House faults Buhari's budget figures

27 January 2016, 14:15

Abuja - The House of Representatives has said the sum total of the adjusted 2016 Appropriation Act submitted to the National Assembly, is N6.3tn and not N6.07tn as indicated by President Muhammadu Buhari, Punch reports.

Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Leo Ogor, who pointed out the discrepancy said that it is an incomplete budget in which the figures do not tally.

He said after doing their calculations of the details, it was discovered that the budget President Buhari presented is N6.3tn, not N6.07tn.

He argued that the budget was in breach of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007, which provided that the budget details of major governmental agencies should be attached to the national budget before presentation to the National Assembly.

He pointed the budgets of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, the Central Bank of Nigeria and all the major money spending government agencies are missing from the budget.
