Lagos - The recent Lassa fever has claimed 43 lives from 93 reported cases in 10 states of the country.

This is an indication that the number of the suspected cases also rose from 86 last week to 93.

The first case of the outbreak was reported in Bauchi State in November 2015, and has since spread to other states, including Edo, Nasarawa, Niger, Taraba, Kano, Rivers, Plateau, Gombe and Oyo States, and has now spread to Imo state and Abuja.

The federal government has  advised the general public to improve their hygiene and to avoid contact with rats and food which are contaminated with the excretion and secretion of rats.
