Abuja - An inmate at the Abeokuta Prison in Ogun State has allegedly passed out following a drinking competition embarked upon by members of the prison.
According to a Punch report, the inmates had engaged themselves in a bet, adding that matters took a turn for the worse when one of the participants collapsed.
“There was a lot of confusion in the prison as officers and other inmates struggled to revive the man. The effort paid off when he eventually came round. The prison authorities in the state have yet to decide on what to do about the case,” a source revealed.

Smuggling in of alcohol and drugs has become a norm in the Nigerian prison system in recent times, with many indulging, much to their detriment.
At the same prison, it is alleged that one of the inmates had smuggled in an iPad, thereby allowing them access to dupe a residents from the state from his prison cell.
“In that prison, they have prisoners with ipad. One of them, through the Internet, defrauded a resident of Abeokuta of millions of naira. Investigations led detectives to the prison where they found the fraudster,” the source added.
