Abuja - Caretaker chairperson of the Kaura Local Government in Kaduna State, Ibrahim Akut Baba, will spend the next few weeks in jail for alleged theft by false pretence.
This follows the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigning him before Justice Tukur Muazu of the State High Court sitting in Kaduna.
The petitioner, Alhaji Auwal Ibrahim of Rahusa Investment Limited based in the state, alleged that, sometime in 2011, the accused informed him he had secured a contract for the supply of gas at N200 000 per truck for him.
He was allegedly coerced to advance the accused a total sum of N1 million.
It is alleged the victim paid the said money into the accused account domiciled in a new generation banks.
The deal turned sour as the accused failed to deliver on the initial agreement.
The accused is pleading not guilty.
Muazu has adjourned the case to February 4 for trial.
The accused has been remanded in custody.
