‘Kanu not ill and has not been tortured’ - Lawyer

18 January 2016, 13:05

Lagos – The lawyer of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has made a statement saying that contrary to rumours, Kanu is not ill and has not been tortured by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Daily Post reports that the lawyer, Vincent Obetta, has said that Kanu is in high spirits. He said that he had heard rumours that Kanu had been tortured by the DSS, that he is critically ill and that he was transferred to a more deadly cell.

“Through my visits, there has not been any overt or covert situation pointing to a case of torture on him by the authority of the DSS. He is neither sick nor have fallen sick since his incarceration on the 14th October 2015,” Obetta has said.

Since Kanu’s incarceration, IPOB and pro-Biafra affiliates have been threatening to protest across the country to order his release.
