25 January 2016, 18:16

Abuja - Lawyers of the Director of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu on Monday protested against the alleged maltreatment of their client, reports NewsDay.

The lawyers accused officials of the Nigerian Prison Service (NPS) of harassing Kanu before and after his arraignment in court on Monday.

It was learnt that Kanu was brought to court in handcuff and was sneaked into the court room via the Judges’ entrance, away from the eyes of journalists.

The handcuff, was, however, removed before he appeared before the the presiding judge.

The court room became rowdy shortly after the court adjourned sitting to January 29 for ruling on Kanu’s bail application.

The NPS officials, who were shielding Kanu from family members and supporters were accused of pushing and harassing Kanu

One of his lawyers said they take exception to the treatment of their client, stressing that he is presumed innocent until proven otherwise by the court.
