Lady detained in Yaba psychiatric home cries for help

14 September 2016, 20:15Israel Ojoko

Lagos - A lady, who appears to be in her early-twenties, has cried out for help from Nigerians and relevant authorities after she claimed of being detained against her wish at a psychiatric hospital in Yaba for four weeks now.

Known as Ify Otuya, the lady was held on August 16. She made the announcement on twitter on the said date – “ Lmao, I’m currently being held at a psychiatric hospital in Yaba by ambode’s police and Emeka Ossai (and other men in my family) against my will. Isn’t Lagos fun???!!!! Lmao”

Her message however fell on deaf hears as neither the Lagos State governor Akinwinmu Ambode nor the police had let her go.

Four weeks down the line, Ify is still being held in Yaba, and she has now cried out louder.

“Hey world!! For those looking for me, I was abducted to Nigerian army reference hospital (‘a’ ward, psychiatric ward) opposite WAEC, Yaba Lagos. I’m still being held here against my will, even after 4 weeks! If there’s still a responsible press in this country, u now know where to find me. They’re denying me access to my lawyer. Come and visit me friends – I wld love to talk to u. anybody with access to my father Terry Otuya shld pls remind him about law and order – remind him I am being incarcerated here AGAINST My WILL! Thanks and lots of love, Ify.”

News24 reported that leaders from the House of Representatives on Sunday insisted that the former Chairman of the Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin, should undergo psychiatric evaluation to ascertain his mental state.

News24 findings further revealed that there is an upcoming musician with the name Ify Otuya. She has shot one video titled 'Body Work' and released in 2015.
