Lagos - The combined team of security agencies which include the police and army are locked in a gun battle with militants in Igando, a suburb of Lagos.
The militants stormed the area around 4am, looting shops and shooting into the air.
The ongoing shootout, which has left three policemen injured, has caused residents of Igando, especially those around Ikejobi Avenue, Ewedogbon Bus Stop to flee their homes or hide indoors.
Two Rapid Response Squad armoured tanks are involved in the gun battle with more than 200 residents on the road with security operatives.
News24 earlier reported that several people were feared killed when suspected Niger Delta militants attacked the Igando area of Lagos state.
The militants were said to have stormed the area early Tuesday morning, breaking into houses and destroying property.
This is happening few days after suspected militants invaded Igbolomu in Ikorodu, a Lagos State suburb, kidnapping and killing several residents.
The attack was said to have witnessed heavy shooting by the militants.
