Magu attributes economic slum to corruption

01 December 2016, 21:09

Abuja - Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, has blamed corruption for Nigeria’s economic recession.

Speaking at the Naval Headquarters in Abuja, he cited the persistent misappropriation of federal, state and local government allocations.

“If 50 percent of the allocations at the three tiers of governments are judiciously put to use, we would not be where we are in terms of underdevelopment and infrastructural decay,” said Magu.

He called for collaborations to curb corruption and subsequently, economic decline.

“EFCC alone cannot fight corruption. We need all hands to be on deck.”

Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, Chief of Naval Staff, concurred with Magu.

“Corruption fuels insecurity and responsible for lack of development,” he said.
