Man arrested for allegedly exporting narcotics

10 December 2015, 13:48

Lagos -  The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Thursday charged a 38-year-old man, Mmaduabuchi Nsude, before a Federal High Court in Lagos, over the alleged export of methamphetamine.

The accused was arraigned on a one-count charge bordering on the offence.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Justice Saliu Saidu ordered the remand of the accused at the Ikoyi Prisons, and adjourned the case to February 18, to decide on his bail application.

The prosecutor, Abu Ibrahim, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on October 15.

He said the accused was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, during the outward clearance of passengers onboard a South Africa Airline flight to Johannesburg.

According to the prosecutor, 10 kg of Methamphetamine was recovered from the accused, during the screening of passengers.

The accused was alleged to have exported same from Nigeria before his arrest.

He said that Methamphetamine is a psychotropic substance similar to cocaine and heroine.

The offence is said to have contravened the Provisions of Sections 11 (b) of the NDLEA Act, Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.

The media reports that the Act provides for a term of life imprisonment for the offence of drug trafficking.
