18 February 2016, 13:20

Lagos – A man in Ondo State has been arrested after he allegedly murdered and beheaded his three-year-old niece as part of a ritual.

Punch reports that Samuel Omosaba, 42, from Ilepa, Ikare Akoko, in Akoko North-East Local Government Area of Ondo State was arrested after neighbours witnessed the attack.

“He has no job and was desperate to be rich; so he went to a herbalist in Ipe Akoko for money ritual and the herbalist asked him to bring the head of a young girl,” a source told Punch.

According to sources, the mother on the little girl, who is Omosaba’s younger sister, left the girl in the care of her Omosaba’s mother when she went to the market. It is believed that on the day of the incident, Omosaba took the girl into his room and murdered her.

Omosaba attempted to flee when caught, but was prevented from running by youths in the community.

Femi Joseph, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the report and Omosaba is currently in police custody.
