Man jailed for stabbing friend

Lagos - An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday in Lagos sentenced a labourer, Baba Yahaya, to one year imprisonment for stabbing a colleague with broken bottle.

Yahaya of Alaba Market at Mile 12, Ketu, a suburb of Lagos state, pleaded guilty to the charge of assault occasioning grievous harm.

Delivering his judgment, the Magistrate, Mrs O. S. Amzat, advised the convict to turn a new leaf while in prison after sentencing him to one year imprisonment with no option of fine.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Ihiehie Lucky told the court that the offence was committed on Oct. 26 at Mile 12 Market.

Ihiehie said the complainant reported the incident at Ketu Police Station in the early hours of Oct. 26.

“The complainant asked Yahaya to get up from his motorcycle because he had on a previous occasion sat on it and caused it to fall, but he refused.

“A quarrel ensued between them which was later settled by some of their friends.

“Later in the evening, Yahaya came to the complainant’s house with two broken bottles and stabbed him on his leg and chest.”

The offence committed contravened section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
