Mayhem reigns as cultists storm Ibadan

25 May 2016, 09:46

Abuja - Gunmen suspected of belonging to rival gangs have caused havoc in Ibadan after they stormed the area, terrorising residents and causing motorists to flee.

According to Punch, street gangs waged war among themselves during a gun battle, although the cause of the fight has yet to be ascertained.

An eyewitness has claimed that the fight broke out around 7 a.m. on Tuesday morning, lasting several hours until its completion.

"I wanted to open my shop this morning but someone told me that there could be a fight in Idi-Arere where my shop is located. I had to wait and study the situation before taking a decision. Around 8.30am, there was a commotion in the area as people began to flee," the eyewitness confessed.

Although police operatives have claimed that the situation was brought under control, it remains unclear whether or not any arrests have been made in the matter thus far.
