Militants kill 3 soldiers in Bayelsa

Yenagoa - Niger Delta militants on Monday morning killed three soldiers at a checkpoint located in Nembe waterways, Nembe, Bayelsa State, reports Thisday.

The militants, who disguised themselves in white-mourning outfits, also made away with two gunboats during the operation.

They also carted away several arms and ammunition belonging to the security outfit.

The checkpoint, it was gathered, is located at the entrance of the community and has existed since the beginning of militancy in the Niger Delta region.

The hoodlums according to the Nation reportedly disguised as mourners to deceive the security operatives before unleashing several gunshots on the unsuspecting officers, killing three instantly and injuring several others, including civilians.

It was learnt that the gang, which operated in several gunboats caught the soldiers unawares, thereby leaving no chance for a quick response
