Militants kill policeman in Lagos during gun battle

08 September 2016, 14:26

Lagos - Suspected militants have killed a police sergeant identified as Solomon Oswmuze after a gun battle at Monkey Village, behind Iba Housing Estate, Lagos, Nation reports.

One of the militants was gunned down by the police according to reports.

The militants dressed in military camouflage and carrying AK47 rifles were said to have ambushed the policemen.

Following the continued raid, operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) were deployed to stem the menace.

It was gathered that a police team, comprising of SARS’ personnel from the Ojo and Iba divisions, had stormed the area around 11am and combed it for over an hour without getting any of the suspects.

A source at Iba police station said shortly after the police team left the area and returned to the station, they got a call that the gunmen were out of their hiding and were disturbing again.

It would be recalled that suspected militants kidnapped Oba Yushau Goriola Oseni, the Oniba of Ibaland, and shot his wife according to News24.

The gunmen also killed the monarch’s guard.

The gunmen stormed the monarch’s palace at around 23:30 on Saturday and abducted the monarch, before escaping through the waterways.
