MNTJF''s fight against Boko Haram assessed

08 November 2016, 21:20

Lagos - Nigerians and other nationals across the globe have been offered an online platform to assess the Multinational Joint Task Force’s (MNJTF’s) fight against the Boko Haram.

The Institute for Security Studies is organising the online discussion via a popular portal, under the aegis of the View on Africa, to be presented by William Assanvo, Senior Researcher at ISS Dakar.

The interaction set for Wednesday comes at a time the MNJTF established by the Lake Chad Basin countries to fight Boko Haram is struggling to demonstrate its effectiveness.

However, the force is gaining ground and over the past months has, together with national armies, dealt a blow to the terrorist group.

Assanvo will discuss MNJTF and its effectiveness, along with recent developments and regional responses as the fight against Boko Haram enters a new phase.

First organised as a solely Nigerian force in 1994, the regional force now comprises units, mostly military, from Benin, Cameroon, Chad, Niger, and Nigeria, with up to 10 000 members.
