More trouble for Patience Jonathan as EFCC discovers $40m in her accounts

04 October 2016, 12:08

Abuja - Patience Jonathan, wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan is in fresh trouble following the discovery of an aggregate balance of $40million in bank accounts linked to the former first lady, Saharareporters reports.

The newly discovered accounts were said to have been opened by Jonathan, using fake names, and abetted by crooked bank officials.

Sources at the banks said the limp explanations by Patience Jonathan on how she came about such a huge sum in the multiple domiciliary accounts earlier frozen by the EFCC prompted the Skye Bank officials to draw attention of the EFCC to the latest discoveries.

Last month, the EFCC froze Jonathan’s $30.1million in various accounts domiciled in the same bank according to News24.

The EFCC's action came a day after Patience Jonathan gave the ant-graft agency a 14-day ultimatum to de-freeze some accounts it had frozen, which she claimed were her's but opened in some names different from her's.

The former First Lady according to had threatened to file a N5 billion suit against the EFCC if it fails to unfreeze her personal account within the next 14 days
