Abuja - The United Kingdom has announced the deployment of 35 more military personnel in Nigeria in order to combat Boko Haram and step up the country's armed forces.

Drawn from the Second Battalion, Royal Anglian Regiment, the personnel are set to provide infantry training to Nigerian soldiers, Punch has reported.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Joe Abuku, the Press and Public Affairs Officer for the British High Commission, revealed that the number of British personnel deployed to Nigeria has risen to 300 as a result of the new development.

In addition to combat training assistance, the British personnel will also provide training for countering improvised devices, as well as medical training.

In an earlier announcement, Michael Fallon, Defense Secretary, disclosed a step up in military training with the goal of successfully stamping out Boko Haram.

It was also revealed that a new RAF team would also provide assistance to the Nigerian Air Force in order to boost skills in airfield defense and counter-insurgency.
