Abuja - The Movement for the Survival of the
Ogoni People (MOSOP) has congratulated its President, Legborsi Saro
Pyagbara, on his endorsement as the Africa Coordinator of the International
Indigenous Peoples’ Movement for Self-Determination and Liberation (IPMSDL).
The event took place in Nairobi, Kenya during the Africa
By the endorsement, MOSOP has won the rights to host the
African Regional Secretariat of the body at a date yet to be announced.
More than 40 countries from Africa and Asia attended.

The Ogoni delegation at the conference included Pyagbara,
Young Nkpah, President of the National Youth Council of the Ogoni People
(NYCOP) and Celestine Akpobari, Coordinator, Ogoni Solidarity Forum (OSF),
The conference was held to determine the different
approaches to enhancing the self-determination struggles of Indigenous Peoples
on the continent of Africa.
The adoption of Pyagbara is said to have come after his
thought provoking and emotional presentation on the topic, “Indigenous Peoples,
the international human rights system and the quest for self-determination.”
He identified most African indigenous people were under a
second wave of colonization, which is engendered and sustained by dominant
ethnic nationalities in the respective African countries.
