MoU to augment Delta power generation

04 February 2016, 18:11Augustine Osayande

Abuja - A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) the Delta State has signed with a Chinese company is poised to boost the provision of electricity.

The partnership has been signed with Yutal Li Nigeria Limited for the provision of a 100-megawatt (MW) solar powered electricity generating plant.

State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, said the partnership was necessary because of the importance of electricity supply to the growth of micro, small, medium scale enterprises.

It will also boost employment creation and enhance socio-economic development of the state.

The governor added the Chinese company was ready to be involved in the use of solar energy to generate power which would boost power supply in the state and the country.

“It is heart-warming to know that solar energy is an efficient and effective way of preserving our environment," said Okowa.

"I call on host communities to cooperate with the company as it has the capacity of creating employment opportunities for our people."

This is in addition to helping to increase electricity supplied to the national grid.
