NERC appeals court ruling on electricity tariff

15 July 2016, 17:18

Abuja - The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission has filed against the court ruling that it should reverse its 45 percent electricity increase across the country, Punch reported.

The NERC had said it would uphold the decision made by the court but the commission consulted its lawyers to reverse the ruling.

The Federal Government had announced that 45 percent electricity tariff hike was illegal and should be reversed immediately. The NERC complied with the ruling then.

Acting Chief Executive Officer of the NERC, Tony Akah, has stated that the commission is dissatisfied as the production of gas, coal and hydro to name a few have been predicate.

NERC hopes that consumers will have a better understanding of the power sector.

Just recently the NERC had confirmed that they will be not increasing tariffs but they are going ahead with their decision.
