Lagos - There are renewed fears over the life of detained former cabinet minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, after it emerged he had slumped while in detention on Saturday.
His spokesperson, Jude Ndukwe, disclosed Fani-Kayode’s health setback, indicating the slump came a day after he was rearrested.
Ndukwe blamed Fani-Kayode’s health problems on an earlier incarceration of the former minister by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
It lasted almost ten weeks.
“It is therefore little wonder that based on the history of his medical conditions which the Commission is very much aware of, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode slumped while in detention on Saturday, 22nd of October, 2016.”
Ndukwe said had it not been for the timely intervention of the medical team in the EFCC medical facilities, it could have been different.
“It could have been fatal.”
EFCC is accusing Fani-Kayode, spokesperson of the failed re-election campaign of then-President Goodluck Jonathan, of receiving N26 million from detained ex-National Security Advisor, Sambo Dasuki.
It is alleged the funds were part of money meant to secure weapons for the military.
Fani-Kayode has dismissed the accusations as trumped up.
