Abuja - Gunmen suspected to be militants from Niger Delta are reported to have opened fire over the Obafemi Owode LGA of Ogun State yesterday, bringing a government convoy to a halt.
According to a Naij report, Deputy Governor Princess Yetunde Onanuga was being accompanied by security operatives into the state to evaluate the level of destruction endured by Ogun residents.
Just ahead of her appearance, however, militants invaded the area, opening fire on security agents, forcing them to retreat, The Nation reports.
Taiwo Adeoluwa, Secretary to the State Government, spoke out on the incident shortly afterward, providing his account of the ordeal.
“The team led by the deputy governor of the state cannot access a part of our state. It means without mincing words, the federal government needs to get involved in this. This is clearly beyond the capacity of the police. We believe a major task force, like the one we have in Niger Delta is necessary and desirable now,” he said.
