Nigeria Defence raises alarm over increase in fake military officers

28 November 2016, 15:48

Abuja - The Nigeria Defence has decried a spate of use of military uniforms by some unscrupulous elements disguised as personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces.

These are reportedly get access to public places to commit crimes as well as detonate explosives to kill citizens and to perpetrate terrorists activities.

Brig Gen Rabe Abubakar, Acting Director Defence Information, said the recent arrest of a fake Major in uniform and the killing of four security operatives guarding a facility in Rivers State by some unknown gunmen in military uniforms were instructive of the problem.

Meanwhile, a woman was recently arrested wearing Nigerian Army uniforms with a fake identity card.

The fake army officer who was arrested along Gwagwalada in the Federal Capital Territory falsely claimed to be a Major in the Nigerian Army.

Abubakar requested the general public to be on the watch in all public places and report any suspicious person or group posing as military personnel to security agencies.

“The general public are further advised to be more vigilant in crowded places as terrorists can disguise in any form to achieve their evil intents including the use of military uniforms,” said Abubakar.
