Abuja - Five suspects have been arrested in Rivers State as the Nigerian Navy braces up for criminals eager to perpetrate their acts during the festive season.
Four illegal refineries discovered have been destroyed at Ijawkiri in the state.
Five Cotonou boats laden with products suspected to be crude oil and another Cotonou boat loaded with several drums of illegally refined oil have been intercepted.
Other items destroyed include 12 tanks laden with illegal oil and six tanks laden with products suspected to be crude oil.

Christian Ezekobe, Navy spokesperson, said the suspects arrested in connection with the illegal refineries would be handed over to relevant security agencies.
Meanwhile, as the festive season sets in, the Navy has mandated all formations to maintain high levels of operational readiness to curb crime in the maritime environment.
Ezekobe said the Navy urged citizens to be vigilant especially on the activities of fake naval personnel who create security breaches.
“They are enjoined to be patriotic by reporting the impostors and other criminals to the nearest Naval formation.”
