Nigerians take to Twitter with #Buharigate

16 December 2015, 11:05

Abuja - Following Tuesday’s revelations that President Muhammadu Buhari got two Toyota Land Cruiser SUVs from the embattled former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, Nigerians took to social media to voice their displeasure with the President.

Dasuki is currently facing trial for alleged misapplication and fraudulent disbursement of over N31b meant for purchase of arms.

Buhari, who reacted to the claim by Dasuki in his statement to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) that he gave him $300 000, said he did not receive a kobo from the former NSA.

The President, however, said he only received two SUVs from the Presidency before his inauguration on May 29, 2015.

He said the cars, one armoured and the other ordinary, were sent to him shortly after the attack on his vehicles in Kaduna State by members of the Boko Haram sect.

Many Nigerians have refused to agree with Buhari's defense.

The hashtag #buharigate took over the Twitterverse since the revelations were made

The reactions on Twitter ranged from the ridiculous to the intense.
