No salary increment for workers in 2017 Budget

07 December 2016, 13:01

Abuja - The Federal Government has proposed a budget of N7,281,361,611,853 for the year 2017, Vanguard reports.

The proposed budget represents an increase of 19.95 per cent over the 2016 Appropriation of N6.07 trillion.

There was no provision for new minimum wage or salary increment for government workers in the proposed budget for next year.

The government, however, retained the social intervention programme of N500 billion in the 2017 Budget.

This came as President Muhammadu Buhari formally told the Senate, yesterday, that he would present the budget proposal before a joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives next Wednesday.

In a letter read by Senate President, Bukola Saraki, at plenary, President Buhari said the 2017 budget would contain proposals and packages that would lead Nigeria out of the present economic recession.

News24 previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari has scheduled Wednesday next week for presentation of the 2017 budget to the joint session of National Assembly.

This was disclosed in a letter the president addressed to Senate President, Bukola Saraki, which the latter has read out at the commencement of plenary.
