Abuja - Fourteen northern state chairmen of the Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN) have condemned the activities of some fifth columnists who are bent on destabilizing the church on account of the recently held election of the association and the subsequent handing over of the mantle of leadership, Daily Post reports.
A statement signed on Thursday by the 14 state chairmen expressed worry over activities of some persons bent on misleading the uninformed public about the just-concluded national election of CAN.
“We want to unequivocally refute the insinuations from certain quarters that the northern delegates were denied participation in both the NEC and General Assembly Elections,” the statement clarified, adding that “We were accredited, participated in all the processes and finally voted in line with the provisions of the CAN Constitution 2004 in the said election,” CAN said.
It would recalled that norther Christians under the groups identified as Concerned Christians of Nigeria and Northern Nigerian Christians stated that they have pulled out of CAN according to News24.
The body said recent political happenings and ‘corruption’ in the apex Christian body, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), forced them to revert to the pre-independence Northern Nigerian Christian Association (NNCA).
