Kaduna - Northern leaders gathered in Kaduna State to urge President Muhammadu Buhari to work harder to fix the country's dwindling economy that was leaving many Nigerians suffering from starvation, Punch reports.
The northern leaders however denied that they had wasted their votes in electing President Buhari into power in the 2015 presidential elections despite the tough economic climate facing the country.
Former Secretary of the Independent National Electoral Committee (INEC), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, who was speaking on behalf of the northern leaders reaffirmed that they would have no doubts about voting for Buhari or any northern leader who made a bid to contest the 2019 Presidency, while applauding Buhari for bringing peace to the north by eradicating Boko Haram.

“We will not join those who say President Buhari should stop reminding us of a past that is haunting us today. But we will join those who remind him daily that hunger is stalking millions of homes. Inflation is making life difficult by the day. People are losing their jobs. Businesses are closing down. Infrastructure is decaying. Young Nigerians are losing hope of being employed. Our hospitals are full of people who suffer mysterious illnesses, and they cannot afford the fees,” Baba-Ahmed said.
News24 reported the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) have stated that contrary to President Muhammadu Buhari's declarations, Nigerians still live in fear on a daily basis due to the threat of terror organisation, Boko Haram.
The UNHCR said that despite claims by Buhari that Boko Haram troops were completely defeated, the war against the terror group was still not over as people living in affected areas still lived in fear.
The German government additionally pledged to donate N16 billion to Nigeria to aide Boko Haram victims in the means of special project initiatives to help in a resettling process.
The German government stated that the initiative was aimed at tackling the root cause of the displacement of refugees and speed up their integration 'One World No Hunger Green Innovation'.
