Obanikoro returns another N30m to EFCC, vows to repay N450m in 2017

30 November 2016, 12:24

Abuja - Former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, has returned another N30m to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission .

This brings the total sum he has returned so far to N134m.

The N30mreturned was as part of the N4.7 billion traced to firms linked to him according to Vanguard

Obanikoro had in October returned N104m to the commission.

Obanikoro was accused of receiving N4.7bn from the Office of the National Security Adviser under the leadership of Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.).

Obanikoro had in his statement of oath to the EFCC , said he gave N1.219bn to the then governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ekiti State,  Ayodele

Fayose, while N1.3bn was given to the PDP candidate in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore.

Recalled that Obanikoro had agreed  to return N584m out of the N4.7 billion which the EFCC said he will be made to account for.

Sources at the commission said officials of the anti-graft agency had wanted to reject the N30m because it was small compared to what he is supposed to have given

The officials were later advised by the commission's legal department to collect it.

With the N134m refund, about N450m is remaining

Obanikoro according to Punch has promised to return the remaining N450m in 2017.
