Ogun monarch, Oba Sonariwo, dies at 90

Abuja - Oba Michael Sonariwo, the Akarigbo of Remoland, has passed away in the United Kingdom, Naij reports.

The first-class monarch, who was set to be the Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas, died at the age of 90 on Saturday, following a brief illness.

A top government official has confirmed the death, albeit under condition of anonymity due to traditional rites that must be performed first.

“The monarch died on Saturday evening in the UK where he was flown to on July 17, after a brief illness.  He joined his ancestors in the presence of his Olori, Abosede, who accompanied him on the medical trip,” Punch reports.

The monarch, who was also an accountant, was orphaned at the tender age of six and always dreamt of working with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in a bid to become Governor.
