Omatseye granted N500 000 bail

Abuja - Former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Raymond Omatseye has been granted bail of N500 000, Punch reported.

Omatseye, has been convicted of several awarding contracts and was sentenced to five years imprisonment.

The Economic Financial Crimes Commission pressed charges against Omatseye of which Judge Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, found him guilty of 24 out of 26 counts.

Omatseye approached the Court of Appeal as he found the judgement unfair, of which his sentenced got overturned. He asked to be released on a bail.

TheNation reports that the EFCC was found faulted in stating Omatseye was convicted of N1.5 billion contract scam as there was no money traced in his bank account linking to the alleged fraud.
