Operatives welcome progress against Boko Haram

Abuja - Heads of Intelligence and Security Services of the countries of the Sahel-Saharan region, meeting in Ethiopia, have commended strides against the Boko Harm sect in Nigeria and neighbouring countries.

They attributed the progress to the individual and collective efforts made by the countries of the Lake Chad Basin Commission and Benin.

The operatives noted that this cooperation had significantly reduced the areas of action and operational capabilities of Boko Haram.

They expressed their appreciation to the Multinational Joint Task Force.

(MNJTF) and reiterated their strong condemnation of the group’s attacks against civilians, including refugees and the Defence and Security Forces of the countries in the region.

Participants reviewed the overall situation in the Sahel-Saharan region since the previous (seventh) meeting.

They condemned rising incidents of violence in the region.

Participants from Algeria, Burkina Faso, Chad, Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria and Senegal took part in the meeting.
