Osun traditional rulers fight over chairmanship position

04 February 2016, 16:22

Osun - The battle for the chairmanship position of the Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers took a new twist on Thursday.

The monthly meeting of the council was postponed indefinitely due to a fight which broke out over the position of the chairman of the council by the newly installed Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi and the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran.

The fight was said to have begun when the advance team of the Ooni brought his special chair to the front for the meeting and they were allegedly prevented from positioning the chair at the front by the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland.

The struggle to prevent the chair from occupying the vantage position of the chairman was said to have resulted in the stripping of one of the Ooni's messengers.

The incident led to the summoning of the two prominent rulers by the state governor, Rauf Aregbesola.
