Police in gun battle, recover stolen vehicle

Enugu - The Enugu State Police Command have recovered a Toyota Highlander allegedly stolen from its owner after a gun battle with the suspected robbers on Tuesday.

The vehicle, with registration number ENU 108 MM was snatched by suspected robbers at Christ Church, Uwani-Enugu in Enugu State, South East Nigeria.

The Nigeria Police say it got a distress call and immediately swung into action, which led to the car being recovered and one of the suspected snatchers arrested.

“In Enugu State, on 19-1-16 @ 4pm, on a distress call to Control Room that robbers had snatched a vehicle, one Toyota Highlander jeep at Christ Church, Uwani-Enugu, Police operatives swung into action.

“In a gun battle that ensued, the robbers abandoned the vehicle with Reg. No. ENU 108 MM and took to their heels. In a manhunt for the suspects, Ugochukwu Ekwechi was arrested with a locally made shot gun with a locally made shot gun and one (1) live cartridge. Investigation in progress,” The Nigeria Police wrote on its twitter handle on Wednesday.

In September 2015, the Enugu State Police Command arrested over 100 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers, cultists and recovered over 60 arms and ammunition.
