Pregnant woman, others, killed in Lagos crash

04 January 2016, 09:12

Abuja - A fleeing tricycle rider has caused the death of a pregnant woman and a man after he veered into oncoming traffic in Lagos this past weekend, Vanguard reports.

The man, who was attempting to evade arrest at the time of the crash, is said to have crossed the crash barrier to the opposite side of the Iyano-Iba/Isheri Road when a tricycle, a commercial bus and a jeep rammed into him.

The tricycle rider revealed that he was fleeing police for fear that they were out to collect money from him.

The police officers who were chasing the man were said to have fled the accident scene straight after the incident occurred, speaking residents to protest outside the Adoff police station. Police officers on duty were reported to have locked the station gate as the protest ensued.

Tricyle riders in the area have since pleaded with the Inspector General for assistance, saying that they can no longer rely on police to fairly enforce the law.
