Protesters clash over N300m houses for ex-gov, deputy in Edo

Benin City - A protest organized by some civil society groups in Edo State against the N300m worth of houses as pension benefits for the immediate past governor, Adams Oshiomhole, and his deputy, Dr. Pius Odub turned bloody on Tuesday.

The protesters clashed with some pro- government supporters.

The clash according to Punch occurred at the Ring Road area in Oredo Local Government Area of the state.

The Edo State House of Assembly had amended the "2007 Pension Rights of the Governor and Deputy Governor Law" to make provision for the project, reports The News.

The amendment, which awaits the approval of Governor Godwin Obaseki, stipulates that the state builds a house worth N200 million for the governor and

Another house worth N100m would be built for his deputy as part of their retirement package.

It also provides that the buildings could be sited in any location of their choice.
